5 vacation planning tips (according to horror movies)

February 25th, 2010 by Natalie · General

vacation planning tips (according to horror movies)So that special time is upon us. It’s the time of year when summer is around the corner and we get to plan a nice little trip. Hopefully this one won’t end up with us or any of our friends being murdered, pillaged, or mutilated. Need some help planning that trip? Here are some tips from a likely and superb source – your favorite slasher films.

1. Choosing the right locale

Some of your buddies might be doing Myrtle Beach or perhaps they are taking a quiet trip home. That’s no way to travel, though. If you’re looking to do it right, then load up with you and your good looking, uninteresting pals and pick a place that’s a little less known.

For your hotels: Cheap and desolate are key. If you’re the only people there, then you’ll be able to enjoy yourself. At least that’s how it’s supposed to work.

What to do: So no one’s staying at your hotel. This might cause some worry that you’re in a place that’s a little boring. That’s just not the case. There’s a good chance you can enjoy the outdoors in a way you never have before. Maybe go exploring a mine shaft or an old cemetery. These seem like perfect things to do with your friends on vacation. [Read more →]

8 last minute ways to save for your vacation

February 25th, 2010 by Natalie · General

saving money for vacationIf things were how they should be, we would all be able to take dream vacations each year on someone else’s bill. Unfortunately we don’t live in that perfect world, though, so you have to do a little bit of planning if you want to make a solid vacation happen. Here are a few ways to save for a big vacation.

1. Breaking down your spending approach

The first and most important step is to figure out how much the vacation is going to cost. Come up with as many specifics as possible, because you are going to want to know exactly what you are getting into. You should calculate the costs of your travel (whether that’s by car or your plane tickets), your hotel, your best guess on meals, any things you might buy while on the trip, and any fun things you might do while there. When you have that number, figure out if it meshes with what you’re able to do. If it’s too high, then cut down on some things and get it to the level where you are most comfortable.

Tips For An Ideal Green Vacation

January 29th, 2010 by Natalie · General

With summer not too far away, families all across America are already thinking about where they might take a getaway. Though the global economy seems to be a mess right now and taking a vacation might not be the most convenient thing in the world, it really is time to get out and do something.  Before you start piling into the car and heading off for the perfect vacation, thinking about how you might travel a little bit greener this year.

1. Stay closer to home

The idea is to get away, but you don’t have to head too far to get away from life as you know it. With gas prices at near all-time highs, people should think about vacationing a little bit closer to home. If you have a local beach or a local vacation spot that you haven’t seen in a while, then this might be the year to check it out again. Some people are blessed to already live in places where there’s a lot to do. If you want to go green and save money in the process, how about experiencing a vacation right within your community. If traveling is something that you have to do, then try to keep it under 2 hours.

2. Using green hotels

With the internet and the power of information available today, it’s easier than you might think to find a hotel that’s eco-friendly. Look up these spots and take in a vacation with them, as they’ll help you enjoy your time without wrecking the environment.

Why You Should Travel in 2010

January 26th, 2010 by Natalie · General

Each and every year, there are compelling reasons to load up the van or head to the airport and trek to a nice vacation spot. 2010 is no different. So why should you travel in 2010? Here are some of the more compelling reasons.

1. Cost considerations

This year is going to be one of those years where people can take great trips at a fraction of the normal cost of these trips. Right now, the airline companies, hotel companies, and major cruise liners are dropping down their prices in an effort to bring in customers. What this means for you is that great vacations can be booked for a small price tag, which gives you time to actually enjoy a lengthy vacation and do the things that you want to do while on vacation. According to those close to the industry, this price drop is not going to be some sort of long term thing. Prices will head back up, but for now, you’re good to go with travel plans in 2010.

2. Collect those experiences

Things are nice and possessions are often lauded as the way to establish yourself in society. The truth is that no amount of “things” will be better than making memories and collecting experiences. According to published studies, the people who go out and actually experience the world are much happier over the course of their lives. When you travel, you and your loved ones have a chance to have varied experiences and encounters with different people that will last for a lifetime. Not only will you see a new place, but you will get to learn from another culture, take in new food, and experience some of the folk elements of the new culture. In this way, you’re getting smarter and expanding your own horizons at the same time.

24h of Tremblant 2009: $1,510,912 raised!

January 3rd, 2010 by Natalie · Winter Activities

24h of Tremblant 2009First off, I would like to wish everyone a happy new year and much success in 2010!

Living in Mont Tremblant has allowed me to witness many fantastic events over the years including the festival of colours, the international blues festival and 24h of Tremblant. Since there are so many events, it is difficult for me to choose a favourite, but during the winter, 24h of Tremblant is definitely the one I look forward to most!

The 24h of Tremblant unites sports enthusiasts and philanthropists for a skiing marathon. This event is considered as the largest fundraising event in the Eastern part of North America which raised $1,510,912 this year for children’s charities. From December 11-13th, the combination of having great sponsors (including Volkswagen & Telus) and approximately 233 teams which totaled more than 1800 participants, this event is considered as the best 24h of Tremblant to date.

Thanks to success of this event over the past eight years, 24h of Tremblant has decided to have the first edition of “24h of golf in Tremblant” on June 11, 12 & 13, 2010!

The event will take place at the renowned Le Diable de Tremblant course, winner of numerous awards and ranked among Canada’s top-10 golf courses by Golf Style. This event will not only be an addition to an already exciting list of Summer activities in Mont Tremblant, but also a fundraising event for children’s causes.
