Why You Should Travel in 2010
Each and every year, there are compelling reasons to load up the van or head to the airport and trek to a nice vacation spot. 2010 is no different. So why should you travel in 2010? Here are some of the more compelling reasons.
1. Cost considerations
This year is going to be one of those years where people can take great trips at a fraction of the normal cost of these trips. Right now, the airline companies, hotel companies, and major cruise liners are dropping down their prices in an effort to bring in customers. What this means for you is that great vacations can be booked for a small price tag, which gives you time to actually enjoy a lengthy vacation and do the things that you want to do while on vacation. According to those close to the industry, this price drop is not going to be some sort of long term thing. Prices will head back up, but for now, you’re good to go with travel plans in 2010.
2. Collect those experiences
Things are nice and possessions are often lauded as the way to establish yourself in society. The truth is that no amount of “things” will be better than making memories and collecting experiences. According to published studies, the people who go out and actually experience the world are much happier over the course of their lives. When you travel, you and your loved ones have a chance to have varied experiences and encounters with different people that will last for a lifetime. Not only will you see a new place, but you will get to learn from another culture, take in new food, and experience some of the folk elements of the new culture. In this way, you’re getting smarter and expanding your own horizons at the same time.
3. It’s an Olympic year!
The Winter Games only come around once every four years and in 2010, they will be in Vancouver in 2010, so you can plan your Canadian adventure around that major world event. I have yet to visit Vancouver, but I hear that Whistler (another Intrawest Property), has a lot of the same charm as Mont Tremblant (in case you live on the East Coast).
4. Stopping Stress
What many people don’t know about traveling is that it can provide lots of little benefits in addition to the experiences you will have. It is a solid way to deal with stress and lower your levels. Right now, there are many difficulties that people have to face. The economic world is in upheaval and like can get quite hard. When you head out on a holiday, you will be able to just break out of the rut that you’re in. You can grab a towel and grab some perspective at the same. So much of what we know today comes from what we read and what we see on television. We are not getting out to experience things and make our own judgments. When you travel in 2010, you might be able to see that the world is a great place to be and that you really have a solid situation. Adding that human touch right back into life is what keeps you going and it’s what makes living a rich experience. You can give back and really gain a level-headed idea on what is out there. Recently, I traveled to the Dominican Republic and stayed at the Catalonia Bavaro Punta Cana resort which I would highly recommend and will put your stresses on hold…at least for a little bit.
5. The “other” Olympic Games
We all know about what’s going on in Vancouver, but what about the “other” games? In 2010, the Mental Health Olympics will be held for the first time. That event will happen in September in Wales. The premise is simple, as it will allow athletes from all over the world to compete in their favorite sports. The catch is that all of these athletes have some sort of mental illness. The games figure to be both interesting and unique, as they will most certainly have some modifications to account for the differences between these athletes and typical Olympians. You could also use this as an opportunity to explore the UK.
6. Meeting up with important people
Some of the most important people are those who we continue to neglect. If you haven’t seen a family member or a close friend for quite some time, then now is the perfect time to head out and see what they’ve got going on. With the low prices on flights and the ease of travel right now, it’s a good time to see an old buddy that you’ve missed for a while. Additionally, many groups of old friends are planning reunion trips with one another. Did someone say Las Vegas?
7. Africa and the call of wild
There are so many people who just have not seen the world the way they should. One thing that every person should experience is an African safari. In the past, these have been somewhat pricey and they’ve been difficult to prepare for, too. Today, an upstart company called Rothschild Safaris is looking to help people through the whole process. They plan trips from the start to the finish, helping people with booking and understanding what they need to bring in order to take full advantage of the trip. This is a great way to enjoy travel, because all of the hard work is done by someone other than yourself.
8. Help stimulate the economy
One reason to travel is to pump more money into the economy. With the recession, the travel industry has taken it on the chin. When you travel, you put more cash into that machine and help it to produce.
9. The perfect time to see Venice
Some might argue that any time is the right time to see Venice, but February of 2010 is most certainly a prime month for the city. Carnivale is in town, which means that musical performers, dancers, and all sorts of other entertainers will be all around Venice. The twon will be something of a zoo and this will be a good chance to experience Venice at its best.
10. Sports and more sports
This is a huge year in the sports world, with the Olympics, the World Cup, and even the Commonwealth Games, which will happen in India. You could head out to New Delhi in October to see great sports from a world away. In addition, this would be a great chance to explore India and see one of the world’s most interesting places.
